Poecilia obscura pattern

Hi.

I just took some pics...and make a collage of one Phänotype from my Poecilia obscura:

Just poor quality pictures, but enough for show the pattern - of this Morphe. All these fish are in neutral mood.

The differences are only in the upper part of the caudal fin. There are more or less little dots. Another similar phenotype shows the same pattern. Even the extention of dots. But the yellow oval in the caudal fin of the second phenotype is simply white.

The white and yellow phenotype can switch during their courtship behaviour into a brown - black caudal oval. Look here:

Hi,

JB Doublesword (y-linked) and MBAG/MBEG (x-linked. Look at the dark blueish color under the JB.

Red Snakeskin from Sri Lanka, seems to get a good roundtailed shape, but the dorsal is quite ugly.

Hybrid between a Galaxy Delta (y-linked) and an IFGA Blue (x-linked).
This Blue-Tail, was destroyed into this fancy - bicolor pattern.
So IFGA Solid Blues seems to be selected to solid colors from bi- and multicolored ancestors like Mosaic.

Metalhead Saddleback , first specimen with short caudal fin, but also with an ugly dorsal fin. This strain needs a lot of work in future!

somebody asked me what sized guppy-tanks I am using.

My racks took tanks between 12 L and 40 L. In the past I used alot of 12L tanks (30cm x 20cm x20 cm)nowadays there are a lot of 36L tanks inside my racks.

Metarika topsword breeder:

A young Red Chest Mosaic . It is a Hybrid between a Redchest Endler with Red Mosaic.

Found between feederfish in a petshop:

It is an Asian Blue Endlerhybrid with nice Pintail Caudal. Doubleswords with bad spread like Endlers & Platinums often produce such Spear- or Pintails in combination with simple shorttail females.

Hi,

I am breeding some Real Red Eyed "Xiphophorus maculatus" for the last three years. Real albinos with cherry-red eyes.

But now I get some brandhot new Wine Red Eyed "Xiphophorus maculatus". First I couldn*t believe that! But now I am sure. They have sparkling ruby eyes.
Their black pigment isn*t full reduced, it is just light brown.
My Albino Maculatus cannot show any brown or black coloration!

Right: Helmut Stallknecht was an excellent breeder of many ornamental fish! This is the old edition of his book about Livebearers included highbreeds. Its called "Lebendgebärende Zahnkarpfen".

This is the japanese "Best of Tsutsui" Y. Tsutsui wrote a lot of articles. After his death the most of his artciles were collected in this amazing book.
Sadly he is dead!

This is Noboru Iwasakis first book about guppies. Translated in english and printed by TFH. Good Work!

Ramona Osche bred some of the last clean European Blue in the late 90ies. She crossed some HS Red Deltas in this line to get basecolored whites and basecolored european blues with HS Red bodypattern. Suddenly she quit the hobby, but her fish are still there. Maybe she will come back to "guppy-breeding"?!?

I got another Type of Orangelines! They were collected at
"Zufluss zum Rio Morichal Largo, Brücke des Highway 10, 75km SSO Maturin - 9,45N;63,10W - Venezuela". They look a little bit different to the other type, which was found at "Venezuela, südlich Ciudad Bolivar ; 50km östlich. v. El Tigre: bei El Salto von Mayerhofer/Svardal, 1996".

These pictures are out of my european blue tank.

I crossed the basecolor "blue1" to a comercial-traded "flamingo-guppy", which I got from a petshop. Now I have the first pair of "european white guppys". The difference to "asian-whites" is, that they are homozygous "blue/white" and they are showing red color in the caudal.

I got a female with x-linked APW (American Pink White) some month ago. I took it to a galaxy male and now you can see the offspring. These fish are also heterozygous with stoerzbach metall (autosomal full metall like mikarif) yes and perhaps with lightblue (hellblau aka. r³), too.

Hi folks,

I got this picture from Robert Gall. He experimented with some asian magenta fish and his selfbred shorties. Unexpectedly he got some of such "piebald guppys" out of his crosses.

It seems to be a partly albino, cause there are no melanophores into the white blotch of this fish!

That is really awesome, brand hot, new guppy variety!

I am proudly presenting this amazing wild"guppy"strain:

It is called "Poecilia spec. Orangeline" or "Micropoecilia spec. RML".

These fish are from Rio Morichal Largo (RML) in Venezuela.

Some fish-nuts say they are Micropoecilia, some claim they are just a localform of wildguppy and some other think they are a new species of Poecilia/Micropoecilia.

What ever - they are beautiful! I hope I will breed them well.

Hiho,

I got this male to take a picture. It s a Vienna Doublesword male without swords.
This fish seems to be one more clue, that there are sword-modification-genes like surpressor genes involved in the Vienna-Sword System ( Bottom,Top & Doublewords). Please notice the sword rudiment in the caudal fin.

Hi,

here one young Snakeskin with basecolor light blue :

Here one mature Snakeskin male, with light blue basecolor, too. This light blue shining gave the name of the basecolor. Attention! This fish is homozygous. The blue reflections have nothing to do with AsianBlue! The blue shining occurs when the light hits the fish from the front.

(A Snakeskin homozygous of AsianBlue does not show any Snakeskin-Pattern! )

I introduced this color to my Galaxys. These young guys need still time to develop their pattern full.

Light Blues are vital, fertile and they are in the same time as big as the Greys.

Hi,

today I present one morph of an wildstrain from Paramaribo/Suriname.
Cause of the horizontally mark at their peduncle it is called " level teardrop".
At my picture this morph seems to be very unspectacularly colored , but if these males tease a female, they get a very nice pattern at their hole body. I am still working at a picture-transforming -collage.

this is my wildstrain , which was collected im Jamaica:

These nice fish are always in action and if the males try to tease their females, they get horizontal stripes on the body (photo below).
Their coloration looks in this moment similar to the horizontal striped variety of "Micropoecilia parae", which you can find at the google-picture-search for example. But my fish are real jamaican"Poecilia reticulata"!

Hi Guppymaniacs ,

Both males are Redchests. Their mother was a R²r² fancy veiltail female from a local petmarket.

I guess she was a hybrid out of a Blue Diamond strain. The breeding of these R²r² Redchest was a good experiment to see effect of asian blue to this "new " color. I think the blue variety of Redchest isn't prettier than other "asian-blue-cheated" Reds, such as the normally traded Blue Diamonds and also not prettier than the red version - the original Redchest you can see at the first picture.

Here you can see some young ruby eyed fry (Lutino) in comparsion to real red eyed fry (Albino).

Please notice the dark iris and ruby sparkling pupil of the lutino versus the white iris and solid-colored cerise pupil of the real albino:

Hi,

here are two Hybrids with Black Bar Endler:

This fish carrys the MBAG ( Moscow Blue Additional Gen). MBAG creates the blue rump of the Moscow Blues. Sometimes it gets very dark, nearly black, so it ist often mixed up with Ni² (aka Tuxedo, Halfblack or HB). But everyone can differate both Genes. Tuxedo is not according to mood of the fish. If MBAGs are afraid they turns pale, the MBAG getting smoky.

Tuxedo is linked with a caudal pigmentation, such as Red, White, Pastell, Yellow.

Only HB Blacks and HB Blues are similar to MBAG.

But HB Blacks are not blueish and never pale when frightend. HB Blues have got the dark rump before they are adult. Already one day old HB fish shows the black of Tuxedo (Ni²) , MBAG appears only with the sexual maturity of the males.

MBAG females getting only smoky but never black at their body in old age.

a few weeks ago I were in southern Germany for visiting a good friend, Rolf Landvogt.

He (and his family) carry on a trade with ornamental fish, especially guppys.

I was allowed to collect some fish out of his tanks - I chose this two:

I guess its a golden (aka blond) Japan Blue Doublesword with Platinum. Here in Germany ,Platinum & Japan Blue are usually y-linked. So we couldn*t combine both.

The other fish is this nice Platinum Lutino Lyretail. Please notice the ruby iridescent eye colour and compare with the golden Japan Blue DS above

Guppy-Room from Manne

Recently, I was the first time in Mannes Guppy-Room. His favorite is the golden Full Red Delta Guppy. He breeds them in several lines to get high quality showfish. Here is one of his promising youngsters:

One of his outcross throws some basecolored white fry. Here you can compare a golden (aka blond) and a white babyguppy.

But he has got also a foible for Moscow Blues. At my visit there where a lot of young and very young Moscows in his tanks. Here are some pics from the oldest litter:

Nice to see the effect of redchest & yellow tuxedo. There are no red color in the caudal fin...just yellow&white. Perhaps this will be another way to get a third color into HB Yellow/ HB Whites to pimp this varietys up.

Hi,

I have got three planted tanks with 12 liter content. These tanks act as genetical ark for some rare guppy varietys.

In this first swims a shoal light blues.

...in the background you can see a young light blue male.

The second tank contents my strain "wine red eyed" Endlers (Lutino Endlers). Some of them carries the magenta gen

This tanks are low tech tanks. Only an aeration and a good fluorescent tube are attached. Once a week I change half of the water and everything is alright.

In the third one, I keep another uncommon guppystrain.

This strain was started by a red male with blond (aka golden) bodycolor bought in a petshop and a HS red (aka HB red) female from Claus Osche. The female has got the double recessive body colour White. It includes the both recessive bodycolours: blond (aka golden) and the old blue (blue1 = rr) . This blue1 ist not very common in germany just as well the white variety. Last week I got a litter of this white female:

All these variatys I will breed in a shoal, like wild guppys.

Hi,

I will start a family with my girlfriend. We will move in together and happily we will get a son in november. So nowadays it is stressful cause of the move. I am hoping that the new water condition will not threat my fish!

Here is a big Mosaic Female (looking funny):

I got it from Fred Rosenau, it is out of an old strain from Matthias Pfahler. I crossed this simple Mosaic female with some Vienna-Emerald Bottomswords to produce Oldfashion Mosaics like Japanese Guppybreeder. Pics will commings soon!

This is the new generation of my redchest topswords. You can see clearly the influence of (some?) surpressor gene(s?) in this strain. I got some wildtyped Doubleswords and some (because surpressed!) Topsswords.

Here is one of my Leopard (Yellow Grass) Breedermale. Offspring was born yesterday---! Yeah!

Finally I decided to conserve the basecolor "light blue" from H. Grossmann. Only one female survived the procession from Saxonia to Berlin. But it is still full of the joys of life and certainly pregnant. This two will become the ancestors of my light blue strain in future. A yellow snakeskin shorttail ( outcrossed from Hans Classen*s strain) and the light blue snake female from H. Grossmann.

here you can compare a Gambusia affinis female to you own Guppyfemales! It looks similar, but Gambusia don*t interbreed with Guppys and they are horrible fin biting fish!

Yellow Grass Endler

this fish is a hybrid of a male Endler and a Yellow Grass (aka. Leopard) female.

Notice the nice metallic shining at his body, especially the green area near the gill cover.

Interbreeding with wildtypes are obviously able to pimp up the colour of some high-breed strains, right?

Hans Grossmann

Hello,

in Juni I visited the famous guppybreeder Hans Grossmann in Saxonia. He breeds Snakes of the very rare third blue variety!

This body-base-color ist called "hell blau" (engl.: light blue) in Germany. We changed some fish, so I got some light blue Snakes.

European Blue: rr (homozygot it is able to show red color)
Asian Blue: r²r² (heterozygot you can see the grass-effect- homozygot there ist no red and yellow)
Light blue: r³r³ (homozygot it able to show yellow color)

Sadly only one Female survived the adaptation from the soft acidic saxonian water to our hard basic water in Berlin.

I took pics of the last male together with some Tuxedos to compare the base color.

Here a homozygote light blue Snakeskin (r³r³) at the DGF Show in May, bred by H. Grossmann.

Hi,

the Breeding Trio Lutino Galaxy from Asia dropped only once! Now you can see the youngsters:

A lot of them are infertile cause of thier "elongated" gonopodium.

But some "non elongated" raising up, too. The eye colour ranges from wine red till black from moment to moment.
